Mission Accomplished, John Davis Gallery, Hudson, NY, 2007.
In this installation, I protest President Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech of 2003 by depicting chaos and disorder. At that time, 104 American Soldiers had died but by the war’s end in 2011, close to 4,500 Americans were dead.
This work was constructed in a 40-foot elevator shaft at the John Davis Gallery in Hudson, NY. Dark muslin figures were draped and tangled in a mess of wire and fence. The figures were nameless, faceless, limp, and skeletal. They represented all those involved in the Iraq War: American soldiers, Iraqi citizens, prisoners at Guantanamo and those tortured at Abu Ghraib.
After Mission Accomplished was constructed in the John Davis Gallery, Hudson, NY, it was set up at the Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY.
