A Story of Their Own: Bay One

A Story of Their Own: Bay One

Bay One begins the narrative of the refugees in A Story of Their Own. It shows a shadow man entering the bay from the left to join the moving procession of figures. The large faces of the children remind us of the humanity of the anonymous shadow figures. This bay is 10' high and 13' wide.

Bay 2 continues of the narrative begun in Bay 1. The large faces are impossible to ignore.  The figures in this bay represent the refugees on their trek through Europe but could also be construed as all of us walking by the faces , ignoring their horrific plight. The overall size of Bay 2 is 10' high x 17' long.

Bay 3 centers on one young man's face. The dark, deep gashes of charcoal represent his shattered life and the diagonal lines suggests the rupture in his life's trajectory. The exit of the two shadow men on the right signals the end of the mural's narrative. Bay 3 is 10' high x 13' wide.
