A Story of Their Own: Refugees in Crisis, Open Space Gallery, SUNY. Oneonta, NY, 2016.
I began drawing images of Syrian refugees as distraught families began pouring into Europe in 2015, when their plight became known to all. Drawings of actual individuals’ faces inform us that the shadow figures in the mural are not shadows at all. Those silhouettes represent flesh and blood individuals, each with a story of their own.
