The Aztecs, Mural funded by the Urban Art Fund, Denver, Colorado, 2014.
I was awarded a grant from Denver’s Urban Art Fund to create a mural on a restaurant covered in graffiti. Working with the owner and the Hispanic community, we designed a mural, called The Aztecs, which reflected the heritage of the Hispanic community. It depicted Aztec iconography derived from several original Aztec Codices painted in bays which mirrored the entry bay of the building. The images included Tlaloc (Rain, Water), The Coyote (Fire), The Sun (most sacred symbol, protector of the world and the heavens), the Serpent (wisdom, power and energy), and a temple.
